Josh Whelan
Physiotherapist
Josh Whelan is a McGill University-educated physiotherapist with a passion for orthopedic sports physiotherapy. He is fluent in French and English, and if his German and Italian are a little out of practice, feel free to test his memory!
In orthopaedics, his main areas of interest are motor control, kinetic dysfunctions and the manual treatment of injuries. His clinical experience also includes disorders related to vertigo, dizziness and dysfunctions of the vestibular system.
Josh is particularly interested in how the human body works, and its amazing capacity for adaptation and rehabilitation, enabling it to develop a wide range of skills and achieve great feats. Through the practice of sport, fitness and music, he has been led to question the relationship between body and mind in peak performance situations. His growing curiosity and personal research naturally led him to the study and practice of physiotherapy.
With a Master’s degree in classical singing from the University of Toronto, he has been artist-in-residence at the Opéra de Montréal and has performed in opera and concert throughout North America and Europe. His career as a professional musician, which demands discipline, communication skills, insight and rigor, enriches his clinical practice and enables him to offer a service tailored to artists and their needs.
A guitar and piano teacher, he knows how to adjust to different contexts, objectives, abilities and learning styles, and uses his pedagogical skills to guide his patients through the exercises and lifestyle modifications necessary for their rehabilitation.
As fitness has always been a central part of his life, Josh has played on soccer and lacrosse teams, as well as competing in track and field. He enjoys long-distance running, callisthenics and the outdoors. Originally from Nova Scotia, he has a penchant for hiking, camping, fishing and being on the water.
